Does it cost money to audition?
The audition fee is $20, money that is used to pay those who spend time listening, placing, and working with you at the audition. Members of the orchestra from the previous year are automatically accepted into the group again and need not re-audition unless you want to be in a different orchestra.
How much is tuition?
Tuition for the season is $460 for Philharmonia and Youth Symphony. Returning members are offered an early-registration discount in the summer. Large families of musicians benefit from the “carload price” of $750 allowing ALL children in a nuclear family unit to participate for one standard fee.
What do you use the tuition money for?
The majority of income for UVYSO comes from tuition. A small fraction of money comes from grants and donations. Tuition covers a multitude of different things: professional services of conductors, coaches, accountants etc.; concert halls and associated costs; office expenses like telephone and the internet, postage and mailings, software and equipment; insurance and tax obligations etc.
Are scholarships available?
Financial aid may be available on a demonstrated need basis. If you have financial issues, please discuss your circumstances with Kameron Conley and we’ll explore possible options.
Can I pay in installments?
We prefer that the tuition is paid at the start of the season so that we may accurately plan for upcoming costs. However, when circumstances require, payment plans can be arranged. Please contact Kameron Conley (702-592-9241) with further questions.
Do tours cost extra money?
Yes. Touring is a worthwhile, exciting endeavor. Tour costs differ depending upon length and destination. Please refer to the “tour” tab for more information. There are fundraising opportunities so you will not have to pay all out of pocket.
Are tours required if I am accepted into a group?
Youth Symphony and Phil members are invited to tour this every year. Please refer to the "tours" sub tab for more information on this year's exciting tour.
Do I have to pay for concert tickets?
Yes. UVYSO pays for the building rental, personnel, and stage fees from tuition dollars and ticket sales. We want parents to come watch their children perform, so we try to make ticket prices affordable.
