Utah Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra was established in July of 1960.

Our mission is “To support aesthetic, social, and intellectual development of our youth and community through music.”

Our rehearsal sessions also include guided listening, analysis, music theory and ear training and more. In fall 2020 we launched our chamber music program. The chamber ensembles perform at the end of Fall and at the end of Spring semester. Professional musicians are featured as soloists in November and April concerts (see Highlights from previous seasons). Guests in 2024-2025 will be Leticia Oaks Strong, violist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Vedrana Subotic, pianist, professor at University of Utah. Student winners of Annual UVYSO Concerto Competition are soloists in February concert. We also perform in Abravanel Hall Youth Festival in March.

The Highlights of the 2020-2021 season:

The 2020-2021 was our 60th anniversary season. As it was subject to the
COVID whirlwind reality, we prepared for all conceivable scenarios that included award-winning, renowned artists and preeminent alumni joining the UVYSO in memorable events and sessions.

In October 2020 world-renowned violinist Leila Josefowicz (https://www.leilajosefowicz.com/) and Professor Robert Lipsett of the Colburn School of Music spoke with UVYSO on zoom. We hope she will perform the Violin Concerto by James Newton Howard with UVYSO in the future. Hearing Ms. Josefowicz and her teacher speak about violin and music made a tremendous impact on us.
